Task lighting
Worktops need even light without shadows from the person using them. Under-cabinet lighting is often more useful than relying on ceiling spots alone.
General and feature light
Ceiling lighting should cover routes and open floor areas. Pendants can mark an island or table when they do not block views or create glare.
Plan switching early
Separate controls let you use bright light for cooking and softer light later. Cable and driver positions are easier to solve before the cabinets are fitted.
